Abstract

The paper deals with the functions of present and past participles which are used in non referring nominal phrases represented in modern Dutch texts. The main objective lies in detecting the correlation between a referential status of a nominal phrase, the type of a referential aid, preceding it, the semantics of a participle, its morphological characteristics and its derivation from verbs of different structural and semantic classes. The focus is made on the nominal phrases which perform the role of a predicate.
