Abstract

This article focuses on revealing of the procedures of reconstruction of the dominant senses of English classical fantasy by means of analysis of linguistic, pragmatic and cognitive properties of realization of the imaginary in J.R.R. Tolkien's literary works. The conceptual space of the imaginary is the highest level of abstract of the imaginary in J.R.R. Tolkien's literary works. It is composed of the literary concepts of the imaginary as mental formations reflecting J.R.R. Tolkien's perception and interpretation of the imaginary. The structure of the literary concepts of the imaginary is being reconstructed in vertical (hierarchical layers: substantial, intentional, figuratively associative and notional ones) and horizontal (architectonics of each layer: a framework of the substantial layer, a radar hierarchical chart of intentional attributes of the intentional layer, a set of conceptual metaphors of the figuratively associative layer, an associative-semantic field of the notional layer) dimensions. The systemic interrelation of the literary concepts' layers forms the corresponding areas which finally form the conceptual space of the imaginary in J.R.R. Tolkien’s works presenting the author's understanding and interpretation of the imaginary.
