Abstract

The paper deals with the genre peculiarity of Dan Brown’s novels and determination of the influence of the novels subgenre on the writer’s idiostyle components such as conceptual sphere and language peculiarities. The basis of the research is M. M. Bakhtin’s theory of speech genre and the ideas of cognitive linguistics about the concepts taking part in genre formation. It has been found out that the writer’s novels are on the intersection of several genres – detective novel, intellectual thriller and conspiracy thriller, that makes it possible to distinguish the following genre-generating concepts: mystery, investigation, truth revelation, fear, motion, danger, good, evil, secret organization, conspiracy. As a result of the analysis of the themes and problems discussed in the novels, such concepts as art, religion, woman, science and secret history have been revealed. The article has proved that the peculiarities of the composition of Dan Brown’s novels condition the use of certain linguistic and stylistic peculiarities.
