Abstract

The paper deals with the main translation difficulties and strategies in reproducing the English-language representatives of the American South concept SLAVERY in Ukrainian literary translation. Ethnospecific fragments of conceptual picture of the world that reflect mental and cultural specificity of a nation through translations become available for readers of other languages and cultures. In the process of translation the two languages, as well as the two cultures, which have both universal and ethno-specific character, are in close interaction. Particular conditions of existence of a certain ethnos (geographical and anthropological features, cultural traditions) form some specific conceptions that determine the basis of the national conceptual picture of the world and the national lingual picture of the world.
