Abstract

The article is dedicated to the investigation of grammatical transformations while translating English adjectives into Ukrainian and vice versa, while translating Ukrainian adjectives into English. The translation transformations which are applied for an adequate rendering of the semantics of adjectives have been considered in the article. The difficulties the translators deal with in their practice have been analyzed. It has been found out that the process of translation foresees changes of grammatical characteristics of adjectives. It has been ascertained that the transformations are connected with differences in structure, compatibility and usage of English and Ukrainian adjectives. The necessity of taking into consideration the language norms while translating the adjectives has been noted.
