The article deals with the pragmatic devices of the humor generation and interpretation
in the Ukrainian anecdotes. The research particularly focuses on the cooperative maxims' violation
asthe trigger of unexpectedness and scripts' opposition. The function of conversational implicatures
in decoding of incongruity and inference of the intended additional meaning has been established
in the cognitive-pragmatic framework.
