Abstract

The article represents the historical and genetic origins of the concept of Proto-Language in comparative-historical linguistics. The concept of Proto-Language has been understood through the model of language tree theory of A. Schleicher and the model of wave theory of H. Schuchardt, J. Schmidt. The concepts of “Proto-Language”, “Proto-Language state”, “Indo-European Proto-Language” and “language-basis” have been suggested.
